Automated Medication Management is a Resource to Help You Continue to Live Independently in Your Home

As we age, sometimes the number of medications that we have to take on a daily basis increases. Trying to keep track of which medication to take at which time or even remembering if we took all the medications at all can become a little challenging. Medication errors can have dire consequences to our health and could be a contributing factor to a decision that it is not safe to live independently in our homes any longer.

There are medication management resources available to help overcome the challenges of taking the right amount of medicine at the right time. One of these resources is an automated medication dispenser. Most models are small enough to sit on a table top and some of them can be programmed to dispense medicine for up to several weeks at a time.

Once the medication dispenser is filled, when it is time to take your medicine, the dispenser releases the medication for you in a small cup. If you don’t pick up the cup off of the dispenser, an automated voice can remind you to come take your medicine. If you still don’t take your medicine, then the dispenser can be programmed to call someone you designate to notify them that you did not take your medication.

This type of automated medication dispenser is just one of the new resources that are coming on the market to give you more options for continuing to live safely in your home.
